Tin (Sn) Deposits

Important minerals :-

  • Cassiterite : SnO2 “Tetragonal”
  • Stannite : Cu2SnFeS

Types of deposits :

  1. Pegmatite Type : Ores of this type confined to the central part of the granite and occasionally in metamorphosed sandstone and schist. The cassiterite deposit of Koraput (Orissa) is in pegmatite veins, intruded into Bengpal Metasediments.
  2. Placers, Sn bearing sand : These placers are formed as a result of destruction of cassiterite-quartz and sometimes, pegmatitic and cassiteritic-sulphide deposits as well as rock impregnated with cassiterite.
  3. Cassiterie-quartz Type
  4. Cassiterite-sulphide type
